John P. Whiteman III

John Whiteman is one of Long Island’s most respected divorce lawyers, having already amassed broad experience both in and out of the courtroom.  Some years back, he became one of the youngest members of any profession to be profiled by the Ten Leaders Cooperative.  What’s more, he is well respected in the Supreme and Family Courts of both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and is likely to have an impact in them for years to come.

A native of Long Island, John reflects some of the very best that it has to offer.  He grew up in East Meadow and is a product of Chaminade High School in Mineola.  By his own admission, he was a “quiet kid”, who was very serious about education.  He credits Chaminade with developing within him “the commitment and discipline necessary to establish, pursue and achieve my goals”.  During his time there, John participated in an outreach program that served to further the education of children in the community, an experience that he describes as “incredibly rewarding”. After high school, he decided to attend college at Franklin & Marshall, a highly selective institution in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  He majored in business administration with a concentration in management and was awarded the Noel P. Laird Prize for demonstrated excellence in marketing, advertising and communication. Following college, John returned to Long Island to attend law school at Hofstra University.  He credits law school with “teaching me how to think - how to really and truly think in the highly analytical method needed to succeed as a lawyer.”  A class on family law piqued his interest in the specialized area, and the more that he was exposed to it, the more that he wanted to be a part of it. “I was going to become a divorce attorney - no if’s, and’s or but’s about it”.

Right out of law school John was hired by another boutique matrimonial firm.  For nine years he developed his skills and took on ever more complex cases.  In 2014, John made the move to Joseph Law Group, immediately assuming a key role for the firm.  Drawing on his background in business and its application to the law,  made John a valuable addition.  John’s combination of financial perspective and compassionate approach, along with strong writing and advocacy skills, proves invaluable as a member of the team navigating the firm’s clients through the process in the most effective manner.

Since joining Joseph Law Group, P.C., John has already made a significant impact.  “John has a good grasp of what it takes to be an effective advocate for his clients,” says James P.  Joseph, himself one of the region’s leading divorce lawyers.  John routinely lectures and on matrimonial topics outside of the office for a number of different groups, including the National Business Institute and the New York Family Law American Inns of Court and regularly publishes in the Nassau Lawyer and The Matrimonial Strategist (LJN).  In his spare time, John enjoys art and travel.  He and his family, wife Maria and children Gabriella and Declan, live in Islip.
